Donors Help Fund New Vein Finder at CBMC

Clara Barton Medical Center is excited to share how community generosity made a lasting impact through donor support. Thanks to contributions from generous community members, Clara Barton was able to purchase a new vein finder and stand for use in patient care.

A vein finder uses near-infrared light to create a real-time image of veins, helping staff more easily locate a vein for blood draws or IV placement. This is especially valuable for patients who are considered “hard sticks,” which may include individuals with chronic illnesses, those undergoing cancer treatments, or simply patients with small or fragile veins.

The device has already proven to be a game-changer for patients, making blood draws and IV placements quicker, more successful, and less painful. Several patients have expressed their gratitude for how much easier their care experience has become.

“The reassurance this small handheld device provides is truly priceless,” said Tyler Schremmer, Laboratory Director at Clara Barton Medical Center. “We see patients of all ages, and every blood draw can present a different challenge. One of the most common complaints I hear is about ‘fishing in the arm.’ The vein finder makes veins easier to locate, helping us avoid multiple sticks and that uncomfortable ‘fishing’ experience. This technology has been an incredible asset to our facility, allowing us to deliver safer, more efficient care to our patients.”

While the vein finder will primarily remain in the Emergency Department, it is available for lab staff to use whenever needed, ensuring patients throughout the hospital benefit from the technology.

In addition to the vein finder, last year’s Giving Tuesday gifts also helped purchase specialized equipment to enhance Clara Barton’s Parkinson’s and hand therapy services. Tools such as activator poles, a 9-hole peg test, finger sleeve ice packs, and a finger goniometer allow our certified hand therapist to expand treatment options and better support patients in regaining strength, mobility, and independence.

“Because of the generosity shown on Giving Tuesday, we were able to bring innovative technology like the vein finder to Clara Barton, along with equipment to expand our Parkinson’s and hand therapy services,” said Clara Barton Foundation Director Michelle Moshier. “These tools are already enhancing patient care—and that’s only possible because of donor support. As we look ahead to Giving Tuesday on December 2, we invite our community to once again join us in giving. Every gift directly impacts patients and ensures we can continue providing compassionate, high-quality care close to home.”
