Clara Barton Medical Center is excited to welcome Jay Tusten as the new President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With a distinguished history in healthcare management and dedication to community service, Tusten is prepared to lead the Clara Barton organization into a new era of excellence and patient-centered care.
Originally from Lawrence, Tusten began his academic pursuits at the University of Kansas, where he earned a Masters of Audiology, laying the foundation for his future in the medical field. Tusten later continued his education at Friends University and obtained a Masters of Science in Management.
Before assuming his role at CBMC, Tusten held an array of leadership positions in various healthcare institutions. His tenure as the VP of Human Resources at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital from 2004 – 2010, along with his role as the Director of Ancillary Services at Pratt Regional Medical Center prior to that, has shaped him into a versatile healthcare leader. Most recently, Tusten was the CEO at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, KS, spanning over a decade from 2010 to 2023.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tusten is a family man and an active community member. Married to his wife, Jennifer, he is a proud father of four daughters and has two grandchildren. He has been involved in a wide array of community initiatives, including roles within the American Cancer Society, Rotary Club, Stanton County Economic Development Board, coaching youth sports, and serving on the Miss Kansas Pageant Board.
Tusten’s approach to patient care strongly aligns with CBMC’s core values. He finds the most rewarding aspect of working in healthcare to be the teamwork involved in caring for patients and their families.
“I am very impressed by the culture of this organization,” said Tusten. “Clara Barton Medical Center has a clear and positive trajectory, which is a credit to the wonderful people throughout the organization.”
Looking ahead, Tusten said he is enthusiastic about collaborating with and learning from the remarkable team at Clara Barton Medical Center. With his diverse background, a strong sense of community, and passion for healthcare, Tusten is poised to lead CBMC toward a future defined by excellence and compassion.
“We are excited to welcome Jay to the Clara Barton Family,” said Mandy Hoffman, Vice President and Interim CEO. “Jay’s extensive healthcare background adds a depth of experience to our team. We are excited for the opportunities that lie ahead as we collaborate under his leadership.”
